The subject of the competition required an ability to develop a proposal that would contribute to the process of creating new image of the city of Bydgoszcz. Main city square, representing regular development with town hall and cathedral surrounded by historical frontages, needed a touch of improvement on architectural and urban level.
As a result of architectural intervention, new building of city council is introduced. The scale and proportions of adjoining facades, rich in details, encourage to follow the same logic when thinking of the new elevation. The structure of the front of the new Town Hall is based on horizontal division that reflects the traditional division into ground level and levels marked by the lines of cornices. The vertical division corresponds to the width of the facades of the historical houses surrounding the square. Additionally, diverse detailing of windows is proposed. The finale gesture ties up all elements together into frames.
The urban strategy is based on the idea of transforming the square into a representative public hall by introducing urban furniture, trees and some new applications in the pavement pattern.
